Stormcaller Boss Guide - Fire Titan Strategy

How to defeat Stormcaller, the Fire Titan, in Anvil Quest. Covers the DPS check mechanics, enrage timer, and the three loadouts that consistently clear her.

Stormcaller is the first real DPS check in Anvil Quest. She has a strict 4-minute enrage timer, and if you don’t burn through her 18,000 HP fast enough, the arena fills with unavoidable fire and the run ends. Every other boss in the game can be outlasted; this one cannot. This guide covers the exact DPS benchmarks, the minute-by-minute fight plan, the three loadouts that consistently clear, and the positioning rules that keep you alive while you race the clock.

You need an average of 75 DPS to clear the enrage with about 20 seconds of margin. Most undergeared players sit around 50–60 DPS, which is why this fight gates progression into Act 3 — and why it’s the most common “my build worked everywhere else” wall.

The DPS Check

Stormcaller is the only boss in the game with a hard enrage timer. This means defensive builds that work elsewhere fail here. You must optimize for damage, and you must optimize before the pull — there is no adapting mid-fight.

Minimum DPS benchmarks (solo, no buffs, measured on training dummies):

  • Warrior (Crit build): 70 DPS — just barely passes
  • Mage (Ice spec): 90 DPS — comfortable
  • Rogue (Backstab): 110 DPS — fastest clears
  • Cleric: 40 DPS — will fail enrage solo, requires a duo

Two multipliers change these numbers: the ice-weapon bonus (+100% on an ice-weak boss) and EMBERBORN’s 2× XP window does nothing here, but the ANVIL-DAWN gold charm means you can afford consumables on every attempt instead of every third attempt.

Mechanics

Meteor Shower

Every 30 seconds, Stormcaller marks three spots on the ground. After 2 seconds, meteors land on those spots, leaving fire puddles that persist for 20 seconds.

Counter: The arena is large enough for 6 puddles before space gets tight. Position so meteors land near the edges, not the center, to preserve your safe zone.

The marks track your position at cast time — you place them, she doesn’t. At the 30-second mark, be moving toward whichever edge is currently puddle-free, let the marks land behind you, then return to the center. A clean meteor cycle keeps the middle 60% of the arena open for the entire fight.

Want the rhythm before you pull? This demo embed runs through two full minutes of the fight — meteor marks pushed to the edges and every Flame Whip wind-up answered from her flank:

Meteor positioning and Flame Whip dodges (demo embed)

Flame Whip (frontal cone)

Stormcaller winds up for 1.2 seconds, then attacks in a 180° cone in front of her. Deals 600 damage and applies a burn that ticks for 80/second for 5 seconds.

Counter: She always faces her current aggro target. If you’re melee, stand at her side or back — never front. Ranged players should never get hit by this.

The wind-up has a distinct audio cue (a rising whistle). Melee should build the reflex of shadowstepping or sidestepping during the whistle, not after — 600 plus 400 burn is 1,000 damage, more than half the HP pool of a typical level 22 build.

Enrage (4:00)

At the 4-minute mark, Stormcaller casts Inferno: the entire arena ignites, ticking 200 damage/second to everyone. This is not survivable.

Counter: There is none. Kill her before 4:00.

Minute-by-Minute Fight Plan

  • 0:00–1:00 — establish the pattern. Open with your hardest-hitting cooldowns only after the first meteor cycle lands at the edge. Dying at 0:40 to a center puddle is the most common failed attempt.
  • 1:00–2:00 — the aggro dance. She turns to whoever dealt the most recent burst. Melee: let the tank-equivalent (or a Frost Nova from a Mage) hold her front. Ranged: always attack from a position with an exit route.
  • 2:00–3:00 — potion window. Use your damage elixir at the 2:00 mark. A 60-second buff overlaps the final push without being wasted on the opening where meteor management dominates.
  • 3:00–4:00 — the race. Stop dodging perfectly; start trading. Taking one Flame Whip (1,000 damage) to land an extra three hit-combo is usually the correct call in the final 30 seconds if you have a potion spare.
  • Weapon: Frostpike Staff
  • Armor: Glacial Robe (+30 ice damage)
  • Skills: Ice Lance (spam), Frost Nova (break aggro)
  • Potion: Greater Intellect Elixir

This is the most consistent Stormcaller kill. Ice Lance out-ranges her Flame Whip, and Frost Nova dumps aggro if she turns on you. Typical clear: 3:00–3:20.

Rogue (Backstab)

  • Weapon: Shadowfang Daggers
  • Armor: Crit set (aim for 60% crit chance)
  • Skills: Backstab, Shadowstep, Poison Vial
  • Potion: Haste Potion

Rogue clears Stormcaller fastest (~2:30) but requires practiced positioning. Shadowstep behind her during every Flame Whip wind-up for free backstabs — the Shadowfang Daggers come from the Act 2 forging bench.

Warrior (Crit)

  • Weapon: Stormcaller Greatsword
  • Armor: Crimson Plate (fire resist)
  • Skills: Whirlwind, Battle Cry, Shield Wall
  • Potion: Greater Strength

The safest loadout if you can hit the DPS threshold. Shield Wall lets you tank one Flame Whip per minute as a panic button. Note the loop: her own pattern drop teaches the Greatsword recipe (8% drop rate), so most Warriors clear her first with the Frostpike and farm her for their real weapon afterward.

Common Mistakes

  • Bringing a fire weapon. Frostpike is great for Emberfang but Stormcaller is fire-resistant. Bring Stormcaller or Tempestcaller instead — the tier list ranks the ice options.
  • Ignoring meteor positioning. Letting puddles spawn in the center shrinks your safe zone and forces you into her Whip cone by minute two.
  • Popping potions too early. Wait until the 2:00 window to use your elixir — the buff lasts 60 seconds and you want it overlapping enrage push.
  • Standing front as melee “for backstabs”. The 180° cone is nearly her whole front half. Side or back, always.
  • Not checking DPS before the pull. The fight is a gear check wearing a boss costume. The forging materials guide lists the fastest Inferno Gem farm if you’re short.

Inferno Gems also feed the Act 2 tier of the Emberforged armor set, so most players farm her past the first kill anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Stormcaller be duo'd with a Cleric?

Yes — this is the intended Cleric path. Cleric heals, Warrior (Crit) holds the DPS threshold at 70. The Cleric still has to respect the Flame Whip cone; healing through it doesn’t work in the final minute when both players need the potion budget for damage.

What's the actual enrage timer grace?

None. 4:00 is 4:00 — Inferno starts casting at 3:55 and the cast cannot be interrupted. If your training-dummy DPS says you need 3:50, you need a better weapon, not a better plan.

Is the Stormcaller Greatsword worth farming for?

It’s the best fire weapon in the game and the required pull for the next fire-weak exam… which doesn’t exist yet — it’s for Frostbound Monarch in Act 3 prep and PvP. Farm it after you’ve cleared, not before.

TL;DR

Stormcaller is a 4-minute DPS check. Bring an ice weapon, position meteors to the edges, never stand in front of her. Mage (Ice spec) is the most reliable kill.

The weapon tier list ranks the ice weapons worth bringing, the beginner guide covers the level requirements, and codes fund the mana potions this fight eats. Once she’s on farm, Frostbound Monarch is the Act 3 gate.
